 Creating Virtual Spaces

Instructor:Associate Professor Pei-Hsien Hsu,Graduate Institute of Architecture

Course Information:https://ict.nycu.edu.tw/?p=2285

Course Schedule:2024/5/7~6/18 (二、六) Tabc, S234

Course selection deadline:2024/05/01

📖 The goal of this course is to cultivate students' ability to create virtual spaces, with a focus on practical development techniques supplemented by relevant theoretical instruction. The course integrates 3D space production and the development of three-dimensional virtual environments to form a cohesive process. Teaching of 3D modeling software aims to enhance students' ability in 3D space production, while utilizing the Unreal Engine as the primary tool for developing three-dimensional virtual environments. In key programming segments, a visual scripting approach is adopted to lower the learning threshold, allowing students without programming skills to engage in learning. The course is structured and progresses gradually, starting from an introduction to virtual reality and interactive media, moving on to beginner tutorials in 3D modeling and game engines, and finally advancing to interactive development using visual scripting in game engines. The ultimate training objective is to enable students to create functional, interactive virtual spaces with 3D scene environments and user interfaces.

Design Thinking and Creativity of Space

📖  The aim of this course is to cultivate students' abilities in design thinking, with a focus on its application in spatial design. Traditionally, the skills required for spatial design take a long time to develop and often do not employ design thinking methods. Contemporary design thinking emphasizes procedural operations, which may not always relate directly to spatial design. This course adopts a compact structure, integrating contemporary design thinking methods with abstract conceptual thinking in the field of spatial design to develop comprehensive approaches. In the section on design thinking, the course progresses from a general introduction to "design thinking" to a deeper exploration of the "service design" process, enhancing the depth of design thinking. In the spatial design portion, students are taught to use 3D modeling tools to facilitate design planning and idea presentation. By focusing on campus spaces as objects of observation and analysis, students propose service design and space renovation solutions, and present design concepts, providing concrete exercises in design integration. The course does not require prior skills but does demand an interest in creative proposal and design planning.
