【4/24 (Wed) What to Do When War Comes? Quick Civil Defense Guide ( Lecture in Mandarin)】
Date: 2024-04-22
【4/24 (Wednesday) Workshop】What to Do When War Comes? Quick Civil Defense Guide | SDGX Disaster/ Crisis Series Event-1 | LACSPEC】

This Event is mainly conducted in Mandarin Chinese.

In this age where everyone has a smartphone and can instantly receive updates and images of war, the impact is both shocking and surreal.
Just a year after the outbreak of the Ukraine-Russia war on February 24th, 2022, tensions escalated again with the Israel-Palestine conflict spreading.
As we still grapple with the isolation of the pandemic era, the world's stability seems increasingly uncertain.
Are we, who have known only peace, prepared for the possibility of turbulent times?

This semester, the theme of the SDGs series at the Eternal Center focuses on "Sustainable Memorandum before the Next Round of Unusual Days."
Unlike previous concerns focused on individual indicators, we aim to reconsider the significance of SDGs by asking, "What will an unsustainable future look like?"
When social inequality, political instability, and environmental unsustainability persist, threats of war, human rights abuses, hunger, poverty, and pandemics emerge as "unusual circumstances."
By exploring these disasters and crises, we realize that SDGs are not just about the distant future but about preparing for imminent storms that threaten to destroy everything.

Taiwan has never been a land untouched by war. Major political changes in history have often been the result of war.
Despite often having no say in the matter, people here have had to endure the bloodshed, injustice, and silence of war and regime changes.
In 2022, foreign media analyzed five regions most likely to trigger a "Third World War," with Taiwan among them.
While international attention on the Taiwan Strait has increased, domestic preparedness for war does not match.
Education about war largely consists of studying other countries' histories, emphasizing the brutality of war and advocating for peace, as if the fate of becoming refugees could never befall us.

We are honored to invite the well-known domestic civil defense advocacy organization, "Kuma Academy," to this series of events.
The workshop "Quick Civil Defense Guide" aims to provide participants with a brief understanding of
"the best ways to prevent war," "Taiwan's situation regarding war and our relationship with it," "how to debunk common military myths," and "what preparations can be made for war."
Additionally, on May 25th (Saturday), there will be a one-day basic training camp for practical skills.
Facing unknown and unavoidable challenges naturally brings anxiety and fear, but with preparation, we can seize opportunities.
And the best time to prepare is now.

On April 24th, if you desire peace, prepare for war.
Diverse connections and experiential learning, we are the LACSPEC!
